Please help to do something valuable for your community:

At Ryedale Community Transport we are constantly looking for VOLUNTEER DRIVERS (car & minibus).

Additional Trustees are also welcome to define and support our work.

Ryedale Community Transport (RCT)

provides community-transport options for residents of rural Ryedale, particularly for people with special transport needs due to disability or poor mobility and residents for whom there is no public transport or affordable alternative to make their journey.  Priority is given to medical appointments and travel necessitated for social and welfare reasons.

RCT operates:

•   A demand responsive Ring&Ride service;

•   A group travel minibus brokerage called Rural Miles, facilitating travel for community organisations (such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ryedale Special Families, Sight Support, Stroke Association, Next Steps mental health charity, the Brownies, the Girl Guides, YMCA, Hope Central young persons drop-in, Ryedale 4 Youth, Lions Club and Rotary Club)

•   The Wheels2Work moped hire scheme to access work/training/education

•   The Ryedale volunteer car scheme

•   The Ryepod outreach youth & community vehicle that serves as a mobile youth club, a youth education, information and training facility, a mobile village hall and a platform for informing and exhibiting to remote communities, by statutory bodies, such as Safer Neighbourhood, Ryedale District Council Housing department, North Yorkshire County Council, Yorkshire Tourist Board and the Energy Council

•   Scheduled registered bus services to isolated communities comprising 5 routes on various weekdays and Saturdays

•   Home to school and inter-school transport.

 Both the car scheme and Ring&Ride operate a door-to-door service, where priority is given to medical appointments and travel necessitated for social and welfare reasons.

Our goal is the provision of an affordable transport option, particularly for essential journeys, for residents who might otherwise be unable to travel and people accessing work, education and training.

It is acknowledged that due to rural isolation in Ryedale, there is an increased call for the demand-responsive transport solutions provided by RCT’s Wheels to Work project, Ring&Ride and volunteer car scheme.  This is coupled with the preference of this ageing resident sector to remain living in their own homes as long as is practicable, whilst maintaining a satisfactory quality of life and maintaining access to essential services as well as extra social benefits where possible.  Social activity also has an impact on overall well-being.  RCT aims to help achieve this through judicious expansion of the two most needed services it currently provides, namely Ryedale Volunteer Car Scheme and Ring&Ride wheelchair accessible minibus service, both of which offer an affordable, door-to-door journey option for Ryedale residents.  RCT also fills the transport gap when mobility is an issue, either through physical disability, frailty or infirmity, or where there is no public transport option available and in circumstances when there is no-one else to routinely depend upon.

RCT is grant funded by the BIG Lottery.
