Family Mediation NI

FMNI delivers its services through a team of professional mediators in venues across Northern Ireland.

The aim of FMNI is to provide a positive approach to conflict management within families.  This can be in the context of parental separation as well as other inter family disputes.

FMNI seeks to ensure that the UNCRC is the focus of all mediation that includes children

Mission Statement

Family Mediation NI’s primary purpose is to support families to manage conflict

Mediation offers a constructive way to resolve conflict and avoid entry into the Court system.  Evidence shows that conflict between parents who are separating can have long term negative effects on children’s health and well- being  and their outcomes, as well as having a debilitating impact on the parents’ ability to parent effectively during the separation process itself and on in to the future.

FMNI provides its services directly to families in dispute which may include extended family members ,parents, siblings, stepsiblings, grandparents, the elderly and young people. Direct Child Consultation may be offered in appropriate circumstances.  Youth homelessness is an area whereby early intervention mediation may help maintain contact and build on communication between family members. FMNI is the lead specialist  provider in the voluntary sector of approved  family mediation  training in NI. FMNI provides training and support to other professionals.  FMNI accepts self- referrers and referrals from a range of sources within the voluntary, community and statutory sectors.

FMNI is a member of College of Mediators (UK) and Mediators Institute Ireland and adheres to the professional Standards of these bodies.
