Cumbria Youth Alliance

The Journey of Youth focuses on addressing health inequalities in Cumbria. By using peer education we focus on enabling young people that are aged 11-25, to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyles.

We currently deliver workshops for free throughout the county of Cumbria in relation to Alcohol Awareness and staying safe. We have partnered with Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service (CADAS) to have a greater reach around addressing the misuse of alcohol.

We know firsthand, as young people that peer education is a much more effective way to deliver such information, and the high quality published materials ensure that young people don’t just throw away the information, but actually keep them and share the information at home.

We also provide Peer research to inform our design of workshops. We identify the gaps in service and provision for young people while gathering their thoughts and opinions and various health issues.

We are the sole provider of this kind of work in Cumbria.  Our peer health project is highlighted in the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Cumbria as a model of Good Practice and also received a commendation from the High Sheriff of Cumbria for decreasing anti-social behaviour.
