Clusters

Clusters is a centre of opportunity providing recreational, educational and leisure activity opportunities for adults with disabilities.

The overall aim of Clusters is to reduce the isolation of the local disabled community, boost their self esteem, increase their confidence and assist them in leading a more independent lifestyle. At the same time providing the opportunity to enhance their existing skills and learn new ones. Clusters also aims to provide respite for their carers and relatives.

Clusters is a unique organisation open to adults with physical and / or sensory disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health problems. Clusters also has no upper age limit allowing adults from late teens to old age, which creates a family atmosphere where young and old teach and support one another. Adults of all disabilities whether they are born disabled or become disabled through accident or illness can become isolated from society, leading to depression and other illnesses. Clusters brings them together and encourages them to take part in various activities in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Clusters currently meets every Wednesday daytime including the term and half term holidays allowing users enrolled in further education to attend. Clusters is based in Wallington and is easily accessible to several London Boroughs including some of the poorer estates.

Clusters provides a full service to the local disabled community by providing activities including arts and crafts, indoor and board games, media workshops, computer training with internet access, exercise with yoga and keep fit classes, therapies including spiritual healing along with a range of appropriate guest speakers. Refreshments and a meal are also available.

Each activity is designed to benefit the members in different ways teaching them practical and social skills and encouraging confidence enabling them to take a more active role in the local community. And most importantly it encourages inclusion, mutual support and friendship between the various disabilities and ages. Users that have complex needs are encouraged to attend with their own support workers if possible.

Clusters opened in October 2003 and gained charitable status in February 2004. Number 1102539.
