Eating Disorders

Eating disorders include a range of conditions that can affect someone physically, psychologically and socially and are characterised by an abnormal attitude towards food that causes the person to change their eating habits and behaviour and often focus excessively on their weight and shape, leading them to make poor food choices with damaging health results.

If you have any worries about a friend or family member, or about your own relationship with food, it can be difficult to know what to do. The Community Programme can help you by putting you in touch with those organisations and services able to provide information, advice and practical help with any eating disorder related issues or concerns.

This can include information on the causes and symptoms of eating disorders and advice on diagnosis and treatment of anorexia nervosa, binge eating, bulimia and other food related issues.

The Community Programme can also provide details of support groups in your area, where you can speak with and learn from the experiences of others similarly affected and those who have sought treatment and made a full recovery. Similarly, you can discuss your experiences and concerns on our free, confidential online forum.

If you need practical help and support or specialist advice with this issue, please act now and contact one of the organisations listed by The Community Programme.
